Grassau / Essen, August 8, 2016 - The Katek GmbH, a company of the Kathrein-group, was honored at the German SME summits as a top innovator. The electronics manufacturing services company located in Grassau receives this award for the second time. For the benchmarking competition Top 100 have been evaluated 100 parameters to censor the innovation management and innovation success of the participating Companies. Mentor of the innovation competition is the science journalist and TV presenter Ranga Yogeshwar.

The innovative strength of the participating companies is assessed in five categories: Innovation-friendly Senior Management, Innovation climate, Innovative processes /organization, Innovation marketing / external orientation and Innovation success.

Based on the obtained data the most innovative SMEs are nominated in three different size classes of emloyees: up to 50, 51  to 250, and more than 250. A jury of renowned experts from industry, academia, the media and politics chooses the best companies in each case.

The katek GmbH convinced at TOP 100 in several categories. Accordingly, you find at the electronics manufacturer an exemplary innovation climate in which the approximately 1,000 employees at the various locations obtained the freedom to develop plenty of creative ideas. "We encourage our employees not only to take responsibility but always to be open for new ideas" said CEO Robert Both.

Katek also performed very well in the category "Innovation Marketing / extroversion". Management, department heads and sales are constantly look out for new trends. In addition, creative ideas are developed out of customer conversations. Innovation marketing of katek is supported intensively by an employee who is visiting trade shows and events across Europe as a trend scout to recognize new trends as soon as possible.

The customers who come mainly from the automotive, industrial, medical and consumer goods are actively integrated into the industrialization of the production process by the themes Design for Manufacturing (FQ) and Design for Test (DfT). To ensure the highest product quality intensive tests and inspections are for example essential. Especially here, the company sees a great potential for innovation. "Often, the product changed even during the award stage, so we always have to adapt our test engineering", explains Managing Director Armin Stangl. "Building up a test concept often requires more high technology than the product to be tested. Our customers usually have strict quality requirements. Therefore, we deal intensively with the construction of the test environments.  In recent years the development of new tests and analyzes for displays and touchscreens has been a key of innovation for us. This enabled us to increase sales of the company significantly, "said Stangl further.

The TOP 100 count as the pacemakers in their sectors. This show the figures of the analysis: Among the companies are 97 national market leaders and 32 global market leaders. On average they recently scored 40 percent of its sales with market novelties and product improvements. Their sales growth here was 28 percentage points above the industry average. Together the SME notified in the past three years 2,292 patents. This innovation pays off in jobs: the companies from the top 100 plan to engage in the next three years around 9,500 new employees.

Compamedia GmbH organizes benchmarking competition TOP 100 since 1993. Scientific support was given to the event by Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke and the staff of the Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics. As a media partner the manager magazin supports the comparison of he companies. The TOP 100 companies will be awarded with the quality seal TOP 100 at the German SME Summits by Ranga Yogeshwar and thus belong to the German innovation elite. This year more than 4,000 companies were interested to participate at TOP 100. For the qualifying round competed 366 companies from which 284 reached the final round. 238 finally made it into the TOP 100 (maximum of 100 in each of the three size categories).
